Looking for Gold

This was a common site in the hills surrounding Beatty. Burros were not only used as pack animals. They are more sure-footed than horses and will always lead you to water. A very easy and convenient way to survey the hills for outcroppings.

Levy Ice and Bottling Plant

The Levy Brothers were from San Francisco, Ca. After purchasing property in Beatty they built a combination Ice House, Bottling Plant and Cold Storage. Drawing their water from the Amargosa Underground River. It is unknown if this is the building called as the "Ice House" that still stands in Beatty today.

Porter Brothers Supply Team

This was a common site in any mining town. The wagons would be so laden with supplies that it would take 18 to 20 mules or horses to pull the wagons. It took a brave and experienced teamster to bring them through town without causing damage to the surrounding area or themselves. Many accidents have been reported in the old newspapers by runaway teamster wagons.

Las Vegas to Beatty

Another look at the supply wagons. This one crossing the desert to Beatty fully loaded. Could it be the same wagon headed for Beatty as we see above??
